Breakaway

Did you ever want to start your own ranch?
Meet Charlie Silver. Recently divorced with nowhere to go and no one to go there with except her loyal German Shepherd, Sebastian, Charlie takes on the daunting task of building her own ranch from the ground up. Returning to the 1,000 acres of rock and sparse grass in the Texas Hill Country town of Cody, left to her by her beloved father, she must discover if she has what it takes to face the backbreaking work and loneliness on her own. When success appears to be right around the corner, as well as a tall, handsome neighbor who just happens to be a rancher, she learns her ex has other ideas.
When I wrote Breakaway, the story just poured out of me. The more I wrote about Charlie Silver and her quest to create her own ranch, the more she spoke to me. She revealed her fears and how it felt to go back to a place she knew as a child. A home where she never gave a thought to loneliness or fear because her dad was always there. Silver Ranch was a refuge where the young girl Charlie went on long walks with her dad in the sunlight and caught fireflies at night while he cooked burgers on the grill. But now, Silver Ranch is grown-up Charlie’s biggest challenge. Like everything worth having, it will be her biggest reward.
Charlie showed me what it was like to start over in a spot she always thought of as familiar, until she arrived with just her dog, an empty horse trailer, and the determination to make a go of it.
In future posts, I’ll share a sampling of the challenges Charlie encounters, and the people she meets along the way — the dear friends and one very special friend who changes her life forever.
